When I was 16, I had a fake I.D. and decided to go to a gay bar by myself because some friends bailed on me. While there, an older gentleman bought me a drink. He wasn’t a creeper, and he definitely wasn’t unattractive. I accepted the drink and began talking to him. No big deal. As the hour progressed, I felt myself feeling strange. I mentioned that I felt like I had a headache, and this guy helped guide me out of the bar. As we were walking down the street, the thought of, ‘Oh god, he’s drugged me, I’m going to die’ came to my head. I tried to get away, but I was so drugged up that I could barely walk, let alone speak. It also didn’t help that I had really large ‘goth’ platform shoes because I was going through a phase. Anyway, this guy brought me to his suv and began undressing me. As a final act of defiance, I hit him over the head with my platform shoe. He then punched me, and I remember thinking, ‘Why don’t they ever give workshops to gay guys about being victims of rape too?’ While I was as careful as possible, I never saw the guy slip something in the drink. I even watched the bar tender make the drink. Anyway, I lied there completely paralyzed while this pervert was lubing up. I locked eyes with his for a moment, and that’s when it happened. A very large and angry drag queen opened the door of the vehicle and beat the shit out of my attempted rapist. She and her other drag friends helped dress and care for me while the police arrived. I was saved by a group of guardian drag queens. They were basically the modern day ‘angels from heaven.’

Like, are you really derailing a post talking about four murders of trans women of color to talk about how all of us are not horrible people? No. Don’t. I can’t believe you are making this about us. Do you really think defending the fact that cis people are douchebags is more important than the violence that trans women of color go through? Because it’s really fucking not. There were four trans women of color murdered in the last six weeks. FOUR. Did you read the post? Do you not care? Is it more important that trans* people recognize that oh poor us, we’re offended they think we’re bad people, when those four women ARE DEAD? Trans* women of color face discrimination and violence on a daily basis. This is a post trying to get us to wake up and fix our societal problems. Racism, cissexism, and transmisogyny are a hell of a lot more important than trans* people being nice to us and reassuring us that we’re not all shitty. Especially when most of us are. You’re just proving that point. Dear fellow cis people, If you are offended by the original post, why? You can’t possibly believe that the OP’s message is that all cis people are murderers, because that’s just ridiculous. So what message is the OP trying to send to cis people? Wake up and pay attention. Now, okay, maybe you are a cis person who is aware of the violence faced by trans people and who actively campaigns to raise awareness. Maybe you’re upset with being lumped in with all the cis people who are completely happy to ignore hate crimes like this. But seriously, if you are one of the cis people who cares about raising awareness, why are you angry at a message that is trying to raise awareness? If you angry at someone for telling people they need to give a shit about violence against trans people, I don’t see how you can possibly claim to care about spreading that message. And as such, yes, you are a fucking douchebag. I’m really torn in the harsh language and brick-walling arguments being used in this post, particularly as it just really gets no one anywhere and doesn’t really bring to light the real issue or what matters within this subject in any kind of way that can get people to do anything but be mad and pissed off at you. The reality of the situation is that trans people all over the world are persecuted; within the community there’s something known as the 50% rule within a statistic taken quite a while back and has unfortunately still quite a strong percentage by its side. This rule states that only 50 percent of trans people will live to the age of 25. Due to hate crime murder, suicide, and dying from conditions via being homeless/forced into prostitution. Just think about that for a second. 50 percent. If you know a trans person, and among the community, the odds they’ll still be alive by the age of thirty is basically a flip of a coin, to me, that is terrifying.
